Cheshire    Archery    Association    (CAA)    was    formed    in    1954,    when    the    then Cheshire    and    Lancashire    Archery    Association    decided    to    form    their    own separate    organisations.    The    first    Annual    General    Meeting    was    held    at    'The Saracen's Head' at Warburton, near Lymm. Today   the   CAA   covers   the   current   county   of   Cheshire,   plus   the   Wirral   peninsula and   part   of   south   and   east   Manchester   .   The   CAA   is   the   governing   body   for   the sport   of   archery   within   this   area   and   is   affiliated   to   the   Grand   National   Archery Society   (GNAS)   and   to   the   Northern   Counties   Archery   Society   (NCAS)   and   has some   25   Clubs   affiliated   to   it   -   (Click   on      the   Find   a   Club   button,   to   left,   for   the current list of affiliated clubs). The   object   of   the   Association   is   to   promote   and   encourage   the   sport   of   archery and   to   provide   support   and   services,   to   clubs   and   individuals   who   wish   to practice Archery in all the established forms in this area.  The   Association   is   managed   by   a   committee,   including   representatives   of   all the archery clubs affiliated to the Association and to the ArcheryGB/GNAS. The    CAA    stages    the    very    popular    Cheshire    Weekend,    usually    in    the    first weekend   in   August,   which   includes   the   Cheshire   FITA   Star   and   the   Cheshire County   Target   Archery   Championships   &   Open   Tournament.   It   also   stages   the Field   and   Clout   County   Championships,   these   are   normally   in   October   and September. During   February/March   of   the   each   year   the   County’s   Indoor   Championships   is staged as part of the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). The   Association   also   selects   teams   to   represent   the   County   in   various   inter- county    events    including    regional    championships.    It    presents    appropriate County   bars   to   all   archers   selected   to   represent   the   County   each   year   at   the AGM. The   County   Records   Officer   maintains   and   publishes   records   of   the   highest scores   shot   by   county   archers   in   each   branch   of   archery   as   defined   by   the GNAS     rules     of     shooting     and     issues     certificates     to     affiliated     archers     in confirmation of those records. The   County   Coaching   Organiser   (CCO),   is   responsible   for   all   Coaching   matters within   the   County   and   is   there   to   provide   support   and   assistance   to   the   clubs and   individuals   affiliated   to   the   Association   in   the   form   of   Coach/Instructor training   and   education,   Coaching   Clinics,   County   Squad   training,   Seminars,   talks and individual Coaching.   During   2004/2005   Winter   months   the   Association   is   attempting   to   revive   the Cheshire   Leagues.   2004   being   the   Golden   Jubilee   Year   for   the   Association   it   was thought    their    revival    will    be    very    appropriate.    The    Leagues    are    open    to Compound,   Longbow,   Recurve   and   Recurve   Barebow   teams   affiliated   to   the CAA. In   addition,   there   are   Annual   Awards,   normally   presented   at   the   CAA   AGM which   is   open   to   all   CAA   affiliated   archers   .   These   being   the   Compleat   Archer and the Mike Denham Trophy.
