Commands come first
Only approach the shooting line when the field captain or coach says it is safe. Only nock an arrow on the line, pointing toward the target. When the signal to stop is given, let down immediately and follow local emergency procedures.
Never cross the shooting line to collect arrows until the range is declared safe. These rules apply even when you think every archer has finished.
Collect arrows carefully
Walk - never run - toward the targets. Check the ground for short arrows before reaching the boss. Stand to one side while pulling arrows and look behind you before each pull so the nock cannot strike someone.
- One hand rests on the target boss
- Grip the shaft close to the target
- Pull in line with the arrow
- Call out arrows found in the grass
Help the whole line shoot well
Keep equipment behind the waiting line, avoid loud conversation while others are at full draw and do not touch another archer’s kit without permission. Score honestly, call arrow values from highest to lowest and ask a judge when an arrow value is unclear.
